Open Hands: Living a Life of Generosity
Updated: Sep 25
Generosity begins with God. Everything we have—our time, our abilities, our resources, and even the opportunities placed before us—is a gift from Him. When we give freely from what He has entrusted to us, we have an opportunity to reflect His love and care for others.

Generosity Is More Than Giving
When we hear the word generosity, we may first think about giving money. But biblical generosity reaches much further. We can be generous with our time, our attention, our encouragement, our hospitality, and the gifts God has given us. Sometimes the most meaningful thing we can give is something that costs very little—but lets another person know they are seen, valued, and loved.
A Heart That Gives Freely
Scripture repeatedly points us toward generosity that comes from the heart. “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” — 2 Corinthians 9:7
That kind of generosity isn’t measured simply by how much we give. It is an attitude of the heart—a willingness to share what God has placed in our hands and to trust Him with what remains.
Generosity in Everyday Life
Generosity often happens in ordinary moments. It may look like preparing a meal for someone, making time to listen, sharing something we have, offering encouragement, helping with a practical need, or simply being present when someone is going through a difficult season.
We may never know how deeply a small act of kindness touches another person. What seems small to us can arrive at exactly the moment someone needs it—and God can use even the simplest offering of love in ways we may never see.
Living With Open Hands
Living generously doesn’t require having an abundance of money, time, or resources. It begins with a willing heart and an awareness of what God has already placed in our hands.
When we hold His gifts loosely, we become more ready to notice opportunities to bless someone else. A generous life simply says, “Lord, what have You given me that I can share today?”
“Freely you have received; freely give.” — Matthew 10:8
